Harrison Marble served our little town for 10 years as its sole assessor. He was well known for a quiet spirit, an infectious smile, and a master of integrity. He was a stalwart NY Yankees fan and would at a moment's notice tell me how " Them Yanks are doing." He enjoyed his work in the church, and was active in the Evergreen Cemetery Association. He often volunteered working with the Scouts helping an aspiring young person achieve the ultimate goal of Eagle Scout - that spoke well of Harrison. Being a town assessor is by any standard an incredible task. It requires knowledge of the law, continual updating, and meticulous record keeping. But most importantly, it mandates a unique quality of understanding human nature and all the idiosyncrasies that we all display from time to time. Harrison was second to none in dealing with the public. Harrison quietly struggled for a number of years with a long term illness of which he valiantly fought but succumbed to in October. Harrison served his family and community with dignity and grace. We will miss him. Thank-you Harrison for all that you did.
There will be more searching for artifacts at Burning Springs next year. The Morgan Chapter will be sponsoring this and interested parties can contact the Richmond Historical Society or the Bristol Historical Society for more information.
The course gravel was graded, rolled and another 40 truck loads of #1 crusher run was added to cap the course gravel. Additionally, work on the ditches was done. Along with the Vincent Hill Road project, crews were kept busy with tree removal on the Jenks Road and Dugway Road as well as assisting the Town of Richmond and East Bloomfield with road projects. "We sincerely appreciate the help of the adjoining towns and the county. It would have taken much longer for us to have completed our work (Vincent Hill Road). Often we do not have the larger equipment or a necessary piece of equipment to move projects along. We sincerely enjoy this type of cooperation."
Tom has been very active in community service for Bloomfield and Bristol and the American Cancer Society and other organizations.
Starting in 1978 she was appointed as general secretary doing the Town's bookkeeping. When the former Town Clerk, Marie Rogers, retired Sharon was chosen and elected now being re-elected for more than 28 years as Town Clerk. This year the New York State Town Clerks Association District #7 Directors chose Sharon as Town Clerk of the year. She has been a member of the Town Clerk's Association all those years and served as Treasurer. She was conferred the Title of Registered Municipal Clerk, having completed the requirements prescribed by the Association for certification. It was then Resolved that she be recognized for her outstanding and heartfelt commitment to the Town of Bristol and the great State of New York.
A surprise local reception was held for her at Schooner's on June 11 since she could not be at the State Conference Meeting when the award was announced. The first picture shows Sharon with Mary Anne Trickey, Town Clerk from Hopewell. The second picture is of Sharon with various clerks from the the Ontario, Livingston and Wayne county region, who were at her reception.
All of the town e-mail addresses have been shifted to Frontier addresses, and so the e-mail addresses on this site will be incorrect until we have the chance to update them all. Since the addresses are scattered throughout the pages of this site, it will take quite a bit of time to get these all updated. Please be patient as this effort is being complicated by a transitioning of webmaster duties. Which brings up the subject of welcoming our new Town Webmaster aboard. Dana Vavrova is in the process of taking over the administration of the Town web-site. Over the years, the site has grown in size and complexity and undoubtedly, there will be some temporary disruptions and delays until the transition is complete. However, with a bit of patience, we will get through it. I want to say that it has been a pleasure for me to volunteer my service as your Town Webmaster over the past eight-plus years, and I hope you all enjoyed what was put together. I do feel that I am leaving it in capable hands, and that the site will continue to grow as a useful and enjoyable tool of town communication.
