A message From our Bristol Historian

(From the 2009 newsletter)
The history of Bristol is being updated on the Bristol web page. Terry Goodman is doing a wonderful job with that. We have gotten many queries from the various categories. Go to www.townofbristol.org for more Town history.
September 19th at the Town Hall, 9am - 5pm which is open to the public, we will be having online computers available for research and folks will bring data on theiir research and family records for searching. Shirley Simpson has entered data from not only Bristol, but many surrounding towns and counties on www.rootsweb.com . Go there and enter your family surname. if not there, or it needs additions or corrections, please let us know. Shirley's email address is listed at the top of the page. We are hoping thatlocal families woukld be interested in sharing their family histories for those needing assistance as well.
We have had many visitors from out of town here seeking family history. They have been most appreciative and have sent donations to our Historical Society. As the County is hoping for more tourists we can help them by providing genealogy as a drawing card. Volunteers are always needed, stop by and see our library at the town hall, and give us a hand with data entry or displays in the lobby of the Town Hall or other interesting projects.
Bob Gallo from Perinton has been helping us inventory our resources. Ontario County is doing a historic resources survey of local municipalities. Our representative to the County Planning Board, Tom Neary, has helped with this project. We could use more volunteers for this as well.
Bristol has a need for a safe secure place for historic documents. The Bristol Historical Society Building is not sufficient for this. Preserving that building might make our need possible, but more community interest is needed. Join the Historical Society and come to the meetings and see what can be done.
I look forward to many interesting visitors and other historic research in the coming year!
